Mark is a leading percussionist and composer in his own right, having toured the world as a drummer with many leading musicians and bands including Mike Oldfield, Mike + The Mechanics, Simply Red, The Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Tyler and Shirley Bassey.In addition to being a musician Mark developed an interest in music from an early age. At the age of 16 he was offered a place on the Bristol University Jazz Band as flute player which proved to be a very useful grounding for his later career. After graduating from Bristol University with a BMusEd he went on to perform as a freelance musician, performing with many leading artists and bands including Mike Oldfield, Mike + The Mechanics, Simply Red, The Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Tyler and Shirley Bassey. He has written for television and radio commercials including the BBC’s “Pointless Celebrities” which he hosted for two series. He has also written the incidental music for a number of TV documentaries, which were directed by leading British artist Michael Craig-Martin.Mark has been a patron of the UK charity Jazzwise since 1986 and was the founding chair of this charity. Mark enjoys a love for all things encaustic with his work being influenced by artists such as Michael Craig Martin. Although he mostly works on commission he also runs his own band performing at venues across the UK and Europe including The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Grand Theatre in Preston, Royal Lancashire College of Art, The Soho Theatre in London and The Rainbow Room in Chelsea. He is currently working with other leading jazz musicians to develop jazz tributes to iconic rock bands such as Queen. Mark has also developed a highly successful solo career including his debut album "Out Of The Box" (which was released to critical acclaim in 2005) and his second solo album, "Gentle Ghost" which was released in the summer of 2009.
